Oakland Army Base

The Oakland Army Base Redevelopment Area was established in July 2000 and is under the authority of the Oakland Base Reuse Authority (OBRA), which is governed by city council members and the mayor. Ultimately, the project area will include a major expansion of the Port of Oakland as well as development (under ORA) of a mixed-use commercial and light industrial “Gateway” project. As with all closed military bases, this project must include large amounts of environmental remediation before it can be redeveloped, which OBRA is currently overseeing.
