VIII. Neighborhood Where Incidents Occurred

  • In 2003, nearly half of homicides occurred in Central East Oakland (25%) and Elmhurst (21%). Fruitvale, North Oakland , San Antonio , and West Oakland each contributed between 10% and 14% of citywide homicides.
  • In 2004, Elmhurst and West Oakland saw the greatest increases in homicides compared to the rest of the city, increasing from 21% to 34% and 11% to 19%, respectively. The proportion of homicides occurring in the Lower Hills also increased slightly, from 3% to 6% percent of the total.
  • Homicides decreased in count and proportion in 2004in all other neighborhoods, except in the Southeast Hills, where no homicides occurred in either year.
