III. Race of Victims and Suspects

  • In all three years, the majority of homicide victims were Black. The proportion of victims that were Black decreased from 74% in 2002 to 67% in 2003 and then increased to a peak of 77% in 2004.
  • The proportion of victims that were Hispanic increased from 8% in 2002 to 19% in 2003 and then declined to 14% in 2004.
  • In 2004, 84% of suspects were identified as Black, and 9% were identified as Hispanic.
