X. Police Service Areas Where Incidents Occurred

  • In 2003, more than one in four homicides (26%) occurred in Police Serve Area 5 (PSA). A substantial proportion of homicides also occurred in PSA 6 (19%). Between 10% and 15% of the remaining homicides occurred in the other PSAs, except the Metro PSA, in which only 4% of homicides occurred.
  • In 2004, homicides increased most in PSA 6, to a peak of 30% of the citywide total. Homicides also increased, though to a lesser degree, in PSA 1 and PSA 4. All other PSAs saw a decrease in homicides, most noticeably in PSA 2 where homicides decreased by more than 80% percent.
